Elizabeth Shaffer, Kate Price’s mom wears many hats at the Academy of the Arts. She is the Costume director for our studio and for the Jackson Dance Company. She and her staff design, sew, order and alter all of the beautiful costumes used in the Academy and JDC performances. Elizabeth is also our Events manager, studio maintenance manager and in charge of Public relations for AOTA. She is owner of the Academy Dancewear store and manages the student intern and work study programs for AOTA.
Elizabeth has a Bachelor’s of Nursing degree from Roberts Wesleyan College and has worked as a registered nurse for over 28 years. She served as a professor in nursing and clinical instructor for 8 years. Along with nursing, in 2003, Kate & Elizabeth opened a community-based Christian dance studio in their small northern Michigan town. Steppin’ Up Dance Studio opened its doors in the spring of that year. The studio started with 50 students and quickly tripled in size. Together they owned and directed Steppin’ Up dance studio 2003-2013.
Elizabeth grew up in Spring Arbor and now resides in Concord Michigan with her husband Sam. Sam & Elizabeth love to spend time with their family. They have 2 grown children Kate & Jared, son in law Nate and Daughter in law Scarlet. They are proud grandparents of Sammy and 2 foster boys.
Elizabeth is grateful to be part of the Academy of the Arts and feels blessed to have worked side by side with her daughter for the past 15 years.
